Any time is a good time to be in Australia. Summers last from December to February and can get dangerously hot just about anywhere, even in Tasmania. If you are in the southern states in these months it's great beach weather and wonderful melanoma weather. Up north, this is the wet season, and it is extremely humid at this time you should double check jellyfish before jumping into the water. On the plus side, the Top End is attractively green and free of tourists at this time.
From June through August things in the north have cooled down a little and dried up a lot. This is an excellent time to visit Queensland or the outback. If you are here for the skiing, this is the perfect time to head for the snowfields of NSW and Victoria. In general, spring and autumn are probably the safest bets, the temperature is rather mild wherever you are, and spring allows the wildflowers to bloom in the outback, while autumn is exceptionally stunning around Canberra and in the Victorian Alps.
